Heartland Hospice Team Supports Caregivers, Large and Small
The Heartland Hospice admissions team works at all hours to meet the needs of their hospice patients, and especially to comfort the caregivers who are caring for these patients. Often, these caregivers are confused and exhausted with the responsibility of caring for their loved ones. Brenda, Director of Nursing at Heartland Hospice Serving Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties, tells how grateful these family members can be.
“One of our Case Managers went out after-hours to bring a new patient onto our hospice service, after seeing patients all morning. With her was a new Case Manager she was orienting to the admission process. The patient had been discharged from the hospital in the early evening, requiring an after-hours admission to hospice."
“As the Case Manager was meeting with the patient and the family, there was a small girl, the daughter of the caregiver. She would come out of her room to watch the admission nurses for a while and then dart back in. This activity continued for the duration of the admission. At the end of the admission at 11:00 pm, the sleepy girl handed a pink envelope to the nurses with a smile and headed back to her room to go to bed. This note speaks for itself!"
“I am so proud of our team and the incredible work we do at Heartland Hospice.”
